performance-based remediation us Department of defense region 5

Environmental Solutions AQ was one of the team partners of the Region 5 Performance-Based Contract with the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (2011 to 2020). This long-term, large-scale contract provided environmental support to the Air Force in addressing a wide range of environmental issues and the broad nature and extent of contamination in settings such as surface water, groundwater, and soils. Sites included former chemical and fuel storage, pipelines, landfills and other former military land uses. Environmental Solutions AQ engaged in various stages of soil, groundwater, and surface water investigations; sampling and monitoring; data evaluation, and oversight of remediation using traditional and innovative technology at two former Air Force bases in Ohio. One of these sites included several BUSTR projects. Environmental Solutions AQ also participated in community meetings, prepared various documents including five-year reviews, annual land use controls, and compliance inspection reports.

“As part of the multimillion dollar environmental restoration project team for the US Air Force, Monica forged and maintained an excellent rapport with the various project stakeholders, including the Air Force, site tenants, local redevelopment authorities, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors.” - D. Ours, PG, VP of Environmental Operations , FPM Remediations

H&H & Dam Breach Modeling Ohio Department of Natural Resources

Environmental Solutions AQ was contracted to perform hydrological and hydraulic modeling of Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) owned and operated Class I large dams. Based on the results of the modeling, Environmental Solutions AQ also prepared emergency action plans and operations, maintenance, and inspection plans for these dams. The modeling effort is important in guiding ODNR and emergency management authorities in identifying critical infrastructure and population-at-risk areas that may require protective measures, warning, and evacuation planning for flood events. Using updated meteorological data and GIS capabilities, Environmental Solutions AQ and project team partners determined discharge capacities for all existing hydraulic structures under the ODNR statewide task order (30 dams throughout the state). Hydrological models were developed and flood routings for each dam were determined and evaluated. Various flood scenarios, including 50- and 100-year and probable maximum floods (PMFs) were simulated — as well as artificial breaching of the dams. Based on the results of the hydrological/hydraulic analyses, deficiencies and corrective measures were identified to bring the dams and associated structures (spillways, lake drain, etc.) into compliance with State of Ohio Dam Safety Regulations. Environmental Solutions AQ is currently supporting several H&H modeling projects in Ohio.

Underground Injection Control (UIC) Program Support USEPA Region 5

Since 2017, Environmental Solutions AQ has been supporting the USEPA Region 5’s Compliance inspection program under the Safe Drinking Water Act Underground Injection Control for the protection of underground sources of drinking water from injection/disposal wells. Under this program, Environmental Solutions AQ witnesses the Mechanical Integrity Testing of Class I, 2, 3 and 5 wells throughout Region 5. In addition, Environmental Solutions AQ conducts compliance inspections which include visual inspection, interview and report preparation. Our staff are certified USEPA compliance inspectors.
